Do you remember when Advent calendars used to be boring, each morning you wake up and get a tiny chocolate, this was still the best part of my morning routine in the run-up to the big day. Well, advent calendars went crazy a few years ago, likely to parents’ dismay and kids’ delight, but with the Lego advent calendars everyone will be happy.
More recently we have reviewed a new and unique set the exciting Lego Concorde that was released the day of this post, but now we are reviewing a recurring theme the ever-popular Lego advent calendars
The thrill and excitement of waking up each morning to see what LEGO you get is even better than that little chocolate every day. There are 5 different 2023 Lego Advent calendars to choose from, from various themes, but how good are they, and what can you expect to get from them?
Building instructions for each set are smartly inside the window, these can at times not be easy to follow. But there will always be guides online.
Find all of them at Lego.com here
Lego 60381 City advent calendar 2023 RRP £19.99
One of the cheaper advent calendars at only £20 is the Lego City calendar, not a bad price for what you get I think with these sets.
Complete with 256 pieces there is plenty of building to be done with this Christmas-themed city figures.
But you get some really cool bits here, 7 cool minifigures, including a Santa and Mrs. Claus, a hockey player and a choir boy no less. You get a sledging snowman and loads of Christmas decorations.
I think this priced at £20 is quite a good buy and there will be discounts as well if keep your eyes peeled.
Lego 41758 Friends advent calendar 2023 RRP £19.99
Also at £20 this calendar, I look at the contents and feel like considerably less than the City one, not alot of value for your money. But I still think this will be popular with friends and fans.
231 pieces so a bit less than the city
You get a couple of characters, and then lots of pets and pet supplies, I can imagine my 5-year-old daughter excited opening each day to see whether she going to get a bunny or a dog.
It’s the thrill and excitement you’re paying for as much as the Lego, very Christmas themed again.
Might need my arm bending to purchase this one though.
Lego 75366 Star Wars advent calendar 2023 RRP £29.99
A £10 jump this calendar compared to City and friends one, more pieces 320.
But you get a wide variety of sets, 6 minifigures in total, a collection of good guys and bad guys, little Ewok and troopers.
Really like the look of some of the ships and weapons as well, There is a lot of playability here, it is quite expensive, and you are obviously paying more for the brand as well. As don’t really think there is more Lego here city. But definitely, some really cool mini-sets to build if Star Wars is your Jam.
Often see fans never happy with the quantity of the Star Wars builds,
This looks quite comparable to last year.
Lego 76267 Marvel advent calendar 2023 RRP £29.99
Very similar to Star Wars you are paying more for the brand, and there are many Marvel fans that would love this advent calendar as opposed to chocolate each morning.
There are plenty of minifigures to get your hands on throughout the month of December.
“Okoye, Doctor Strange, Captain America, Spider-Man, Wong, Iron Man and Black Widow minifigures, plus mini builds and accessories”
7 Mini figures are not bad, with lots of other cool things to build.
This is a nice little set, The piece count may be lower than in Star Wars and it does appear there is less to build than in the Star Wars one, but all those minifigures will be well sought after if haven’t got them already.
Lego 76418 Harry Potter 2023 advent calendar. RRP £29.99
As last year we also have Harry Potter advent calendar to get excited about.
227 build piece similar to Marvel.
You get all the top minifigures here, with Harry, Hermoine, Ron, Dumbledore, Malfoy and Madam Rosmerta
Plenty of other tiny build pieces to keep occupied for a minute or two before school.
Any big Harry Potter collector is going to want to be opening these each day in December.
Looking at discounts
You will likely be able to get a fiver off these calendars as we get closer to the time. If you are not too worried about the opening each day and want one of the pieces then wait until December gets kicking and you should be able to buy for half off.
At the moment the first to start with discounts on the calendars is CostCo.

The other 3 you can get for £4 off as well. There will surely be bigger discounts to come
