Lego City as a theme is not normally where I focus on investments, there are a few reasons for that as there is a lot of duplication of types of sets, you only have to look and see how many police stations, cars, fire stations etc there are. They do retire but are often replaced by similar ones. That being said I have made good money investing in Lego city sets as well.
This set 60226 I bought for £16, a discount of 35%. It is now selling for £50 and has been for some time, so I doubled my money on all these sets.
I am certainly more wary of Lego City, and normally on the hunt for a bigger discount than some other themes.

The good news is you can often get these bigger discounts, of 40 -50%.
There are plenty of Lego city sets retiring this year. So hard to see the wood through the trees. But there are a few sets that I am focusing on as good solid Lego investments.
Lego 60253 Ice Cream Truck RRP £17.99
This set is a worthwhile investment, it is hugely popular, my only reservation is it has been out for some time, and many I think may have invested as early as 2022, there may be an influx of sellers next year. But being this popular it will go through quite quickly.
This set has been out for a long time now, (3 years) Always in the top 1,000 for toys and games on Amazon.
Discount wise I would not be buying for more than £12. There will be other ice cream vans but this will still do well.
Lego 60314 Ice cream police chase RRP £24.99
There is a theme here, ice cream again. But I also like this set, and also we have seen it at a good discount which hopefully we shall see again.

We were fortunate to pick this up at half price earlier on in the year which was a huge no-brainer. But anything at about 40% off, I think will be a great buy on this set.
Lego 60324 Mobile crane RRP £39.99
I always find construction sets do quite well, and this set is a bit more unique from the city range so see it doing quite well in retirement.
Popular as well and hasn’t been on the market for a huge amount of time.
The target price is about £25 for this one if it comes back to this price. It was briefly at £20 but happy to buy at £25.
I would certainly consider this one a bit more risky, we need to get it and then sell it for about £60 to make our return. Maybe that we need to hold for a bit longer with this one.
But always difficult to tell.
I will certainly make money regardless.
Lego 60348 space roving vehicle. RRP £29.99
There are a few space sets that if get discounted at the right price I would consider decent investments.
The pick of the bunch for me is the roving vehicle. More popular than the others and a reasonably priced unique set. Might want a bit of a bigger discount than is normally available if we get a chance to pick for a third off. Or we may even be able to get 40-50% off.
Keep a look out for any of these smaller Lego sets
These sets are priced at £8.99 and I would be happy picking any of these up between a third to 50% off if you can. These are the sets that you may be able to find in the wild so to speak in retail clearances.

The best time I find to get City sets, is this time, as we know what is retiring and popular and also, they are normally stocked to the rafters in supermarkets. At the end of the year when they leave the market often see many city sets going down 50% off.
At this price, nearly all Lego is a good buy and will make money. Comfortably, you can expect to double your money, by picking any small sets up for 50% off.
Always just make sure to check the database to ensure that the set is retiring this year.
