Lego Technic Investing 2024 guide, buy these if want to double your money
Lego technic is always a great investment, it is a very popular theme, with a variety of collectable offerings, with cars, construction items, and space sets. All sorts. Can also often pick them up at really good discounts.
Many technic sets do well post-retirement, with many that have retired just a couple of months ago already seeing a fantastic return on investment.
So which sets should you be on the lookout for throughout 2024 and which give the best chance of doubling your money when bought at the right price?

But which sets should you buy for 2024? Here are my thoughts on the best Lego Technic investments.
42136, Technic, John Deere 9620R 4WD Tractor, £24.99
This set has it all, popular, technic, collectable in its own right and a great toy for kids to play with as well.
This set you don’t want to be paying more than £15 each. It is currently in the 2 for 30 Argos offer so I will be snapping these up throughout the year. Hoarding it until 2024 when it retires.
This always sits at the top 1K sales rank
These will perform very nicely, you will have many invest in this set due to the 2 for £30 but it is a quick seller so will just need to wait out undercutters and can see us at the £50 mark on Amazon.
Each month I am going to buy my Argos voucher buy a couple of these from Argos and keep collecting throughout the year.

42138, Technic, Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, £44.99
This set also sits in the top 1K sales rank. It is a fantastic build, have one sat on my shelf along with the other technic sets.
Again has that collectability being a Mustang, a distinctive popular car. From 2023 you could put this in the same zone as 42123 This is already sitting at £60 on Amazon just a couple of months after retirement and I expect it to go up more in time.
My target buy price for this set would be a third off at £30 each, would hope to sell the year after at about the £80 mark on Amazon doubling our money after fees.

42149, Technic, Monster Jam Dragon, £17.99, & 42150, Technic, Monster Jam Monster Mutt Dalmatian, £17.99,
These two technic sets will be excellent investments, and can expect them to be making 100% return soon after retirement, you will want a bigger discount on these sets, 40 to 50% off.
They are always readily available at great discounts these two. Having already picked some up for half-price this year. 
But with 42150 being in the 2 for 20 at Argos and Amazon, this will be easily accomplished, don’t get put off by the fact so easily available. They always are, and they always do well. Such a quick seller, expect them to be selling for 25-30 within 6 months of retirement.
For comparison look at the sets that were retired last year
42134 / 42135 – They are already doing well just a couple of months after retirement.
42096, Technic, Porsche 911 RSR, £169.99
The highest-priced set on the investment list for technic is the Porsche.
But this 911 is going to be very popular with collectors when it retires. I can see it going north of £300. So if you can pick it up at a decent discount at around £120 mark then you will have a very solid buy.
There was a similar Porsche 911 technic set that came out in 42056 that retired in 2018 RRP was £260 so was a bigger set, but this has done well post retirement and expect more of the same here.
A couple of notes for this one however in that it has been out for a long time now since 2019, also the retirement date has been bumped in the past, it could happen again.
Because it has been out for such a long time, will likely take longer to get to our desired price point as more are holding, so perhaps 18-24 months post-retirement. But as a long-term one this is a fantastic investment

42153, Technic, NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, £44.99
This set would likely be much more popular in America, but looking at the sales rank is still widely popular in the UK it is in the top 3k sales rank
The only thing for this set is we saw a few times it available at discounts down as low as £26, if we see this again in 2024 then will be snapping up. But would still be happy to buy at the £30 mark later in the year. Would be confident of a great return at this price.
