Which Lego Architecture sets retiring this year and should you invest in them?

Which Lego Archtiecture sets are retiring in 2024 and are they good investments?

Table of Contents

21056, Architecture, Taj Mahal, £104.99
21056

21057, Architecture, Singapore, £54.99

21057

Just the two Architecture sets that are retiring this year, which is not unusual as it is a rather small theme, there are only nine sets in this theme. Often they can be on the market for some time.

The Taj Mahal 21056 has been on the market since 2021 so will have been on the market for over 3 years. A hugely iconic architectural piece that will surely be well sought after. So not long to go until this set leaves us.

Singapore 21057 has been out since the beginning of 2022 so a similar life span, and fits in with the other skyline pieces of New York and London, nearly at half the price.

Should any of these sets be considered for investment?

Lego Architecture sets have historically done rather well as an investment, the only barrier to these is that they normally have long life spans, and are not usually discounted. But I think if we see good discounts on these two sets then consideration could be had.

The Taj Mahal I think could do well but only as a long-term investment, the sales rank is not great so it will be a slow seller, a very big discount will be required.

The sales rank for Singapore is much better as it is readily available at Amazon and has seen decent discounts of around 20%, I do however, think we could see bigger discounts as this gets closer to retirement.

A look at past sets for investment

The best way to decide if these will be good investments is to look back at past sets.

The most recent retiree is the white house, 21054, it has not long since retired so may be too early to see how it has done, but again it was rarely discounted, until right at the end of its time on the market. Priced at £89.99 At the moment only sits at £110 on Amazon so you are not making money on this set at the moment.

If however we look at skyline sets in the same group as Singapore we have a couple of sets that retired in 2022 and 2021 to compare.

21052 Dubai left the market in 2021 priced at £54.99 and 21051 Tokyo at the same price left the year after the end of 2022.

21051 with about 18 months off the market now has got up to £90-100 – so if you were able to buy at its bottom price of about £43 you would be making good money, but not an easy 100% return, still a little to go.

21052 with an extra year in the aftermarket, similarly as occasionally got up to £120 currently sits at around £100.

So yes you could make money on 21057 Singapore, but I don’t see the price going up above £100 anytime soon, as a consequence it may not be the best choice for investment, long hold I think they will do well, but it depends on your strategy.

For me, there is better out there, that will have quicker rises than these.

That is unless we could snap up for 40-50% off, that however is probably unlikely.
