Lego investing success 31113 Race car transporter- a big discount means a huge return on investment
We are going back a bit further in this success story, this Lego set retired at the end of 2022, which is the same year that we bought it, we sold it a year later in Q4 of 2023.
Its retail price was £21.99, there was a small time when it went down to £10 when we were able to buy a fair few of them, making it a very suitable buy price for investing.
After some time post-retirement it was selling for £30 and above. I sold mine when it hit the £30 price point and made £11.38 profit on each set or a 113% ROI
Why did I invest in this set?
Creator sets often do well, however, this is a theme where a bigger discount is often required, particularly for a set such as this, because it lacks the unique nature of other sets.
There will be other car transporters around and thus the price will only ever go so high. It hit £30 a while ago, but it is still at the same price, buyers will not really be prepared to pay much more for this set as there will be other similar sets to grab hold of.
We knew it would be a quick seller as the sales rank was always very high top 2-3K BSR.
Also, the encouraging factor that it sold well and above RRP when Amazon went out of stock, gave us a great insight as to how it would perform after retirement
