Lego Success 2 – How I doubled my money on Star Wars Lego 75280
Next in our latest look back at Lego investing successes we look at Lego 75280 Clone troopers.
This set was a modestly priced Lego star wars set, that got you 6 minifigures, (four clone troopers and 2 battle droids) You also got a AT- RT walker and a BARC speeder.
Plenty to this set, that was sure to improve many Star wars armies.
Priced at just £25 this set was rather good value for money
How much did I make on this set?
This set again allowed me to double my money.
The RRP on this set was £24.99 and we got a modest discount of 20% off on the vast majority of the sets, averaging a buy price of £20.59, not a huge discount, but was certainly enough.
Bought throughout 2022 before it retired in December 2022.
We had to wait till just over a year after retirement to double our money. When we sold out of all sets at average of £55. Which after all fees saw us make a profit of £22.06 or 107% return on investment.
Now as always nobody can argue with those sorts of numbers. A huge return.
Why did we invest in this set?
To pick the next big set that will make money, you want to know what was seen in this one.
There is a few elements to this set that always gave me huge confidence.
It’s a Star Wars theme and hugely popular – the sales rank showed that this was one of the most popular sets around, always in the top 1000 sales rank. This was always going to translate into an increase in price after the market.
There wasn’t really huge discounts, so I knew by the time I bought my bulk – people wouldn’t have got it for much cheaper.
Battle packs always do well, these Star Wars sets that allow collectors to build up their armies, are always popular and people will buy multiple amounts, this means the stock is burnt through, and the sale numbers are always high.
That is all good saying that but also looking at past battle packs we can see that this is clearly true.
Looking at similar sets
I am always quite keen on battle packs to seek out solid investment returns.
The last few battle packs that left the market were 75266 which left in 2021 and 75267.
Both of these sets were ones that i doubled my money on as well. Both of these however we got much bigger discounts, paying around £7.50 and less, so selling them for around £20 made our money. But the logic in these sets to 75280 is the same, they are both rapid sellers, that will remain popular post retirement and this means they shall do well on the after market.
Put this Lego star wars set on your watchlist.
There is a set out at the moment that has so much similarities right now between 75280, same price, similar set pieces, similar popularity.
Lego 75372 has 4 minifigures 5 battle droids, a stap speeder, a speeder bike and tri droid.
£25 again seems great value for this set.
The only thing however is to consider that this set retires in 2025, so hold your horses.
We have also seen below £20 on this set quite abit, and although always selling out quickly, hunting for prices below £18 will make this a seperb investment.
