With Lego investing one of your criteria is wanting popular and collectable sets. Harry Potter always has these in abundance. So, it is always a theme worth investing in. 13 sets are retiring this year. Many would be decent investments, but what are the five best of these and what price should you consider buying?
Lego 75968 Privet drive
This set has been out on the market for a long time, this is a very popular set, and it saw a price increase during its time on the market. But even then we still go down to my target buy price quite often. I am hoping we will hit it again.
Complete with the flying car, I am very confident this set will do very well. Can see it storming up to 100% return within the year. That being said it has been out a while so may be highly invested. But the name of the game is patience. Don’t chase the sale and sell too early, hold out for the 100% because this set will get there.
Always in the top 2-3 K BSR
You want to be snapping this set-up for about £40. A bit higher would be okay, but we have seen this price point enough that it is still my current target.
Lego 75979 Hedwig
Now for popular Harry Potter sets look no further than Hedwig. A very very popular Lego set this sub 1,000 sales rank. This set will fly (Pardon the pun). It has been out for some time and always does well. In the past I have been able to get some brilliant discounts, getting this one close to half off. Those days may be behind us.
Rarely discounted, but it has been sometimes. This set is a no-brainer, any meaningful discount and this is the golden ticket for investing.
Have seen listed for £30 recently but I am kind of hoping to come down to £25. But we may or may not see that.
Lego 76386 Poly juice potion mistake
This set is a smaller one, and has been out for less time, but is another huge investment. One of my favourites that are out on the current market. Very popular and collectable. The thing that I have in the back of my head is that little exclusive golden Harry Potter, is going to be very well sought after.
You have quite often been able to pick up for around £14 and this I would consider a good buy.
However, I have been able to pick some up for £12 at a third off this is my ideal buy price for this set. Mainly as I don’t want to increase my average too much. But the close the end of the year comes. I get close to buying at £14. Either way, you will make great money with this set.
Lego 76400 Carriage and thestrals
A similarly priced set this one at £18, is also very popular and has been out for 18 months.
perhaps not quite as high up in my estimations as polyjuice potion above. But this set is a great investment.
My target price again is at £12. It was this price in the 3 for 2 at Sainsbury’s earlier this year and am looking for that price again.
Lego 76398 Hospital wing
The last of the five sets is the hospital wing. A bigger set is priced at £44.99.
These castle sets always do well after retirement. Fit in nicely with other past and current sets.

I would be happy picking this one up at anything around £35 – or lower if possible at maybe £30. But that may be being greedy,
£35 however is available quite a lot and a price I think will be perfectly ok for doubling our money on this set.
