I have been long awaiting the final confirmation of the LEGO Speed Champions sets that are leaving the market, although we were confident, it is never until you see that little last chance sticker on LEGO.com that to know the set is truly leaving the market.
After analysis and sales from past years, it is clear that LEGO speed champions are always great solid investments that routinely double my money.
So with that in mind which Lego Speed Champions sets should you invest in this year and which Speed Champions sets are retiring this year?

LEGO 76900 Koenigsegg Jesko RRP £19.99
This set has been out for Equal Longest with the Toyota below, a very cool car set, that was fun to build and sits pride of place on my sons shelves.
These two came out june 2021 so have been on the market for some time, half expected them to go last year, but they held out for another 12 months.
This set is always very popular – sitting in the top 1-2 k bsr ranking on Amazon. Have been able to pick up some for half off over the last year.
A good target for these sets would be a third off. You quite often see them at 25% off. Which although is a good price. To make your return go even further I would be snapping up when they go a bit more.
LEGO 76901 Toyota GR Supra RRP £19.99
The Toyota is an equally solid investment, very very popular and been out for some time. A cool car that will surely be very collectable.
Similar excellent sales rank as well.
The reason I have less of these is because they are less often discounted. Rarely have I seen 25% off. and have snapped up the others when at half off.
But because of that I would be more likely to pick up at a quarter off. But will be on the hunt for bigger discounts.
LEGO 76907 Lotus Evija RRP £19.99
This set is a bit newer and was from the batch in March 2022 so has had a good life span.
This is another that I haven’t seen the same discounts as others so have neglected to buy, it hasn’t quite hit my price point of 25% off quite. But very close.
Hopefully in the clearance will see this further.
This is hugely popular and feel like being a Lotus will hold its value extremely well and grow and grow as they become more scarce.
LEGO 76910 Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro and Aston Martin Vantage GT3 RRP £19.99
This is the only double set that is retiring this year. 2 very cool looking cars. Aston Martin being very collectable amongst enthusiasts.
Priced at 39.99 you are looked at the same price per car as the other sets.
Similarly you are looking for the same discount. £30 is a good buy in price, If you can get it. But again be on the lookout for bigger discounts soon.
If your ability to invest is limited. I have found that normally the single cars increase in value percentage wise, more than the doubles. But they still perform very well and should certainly be considered for investment.
LEGO 76911 007 Aston Martin DB5 RRP £19.99
Last year Speed Champions took a slightly different turn, bringing cars in from movies. Now we have 3- way collectability – LEGO – Car manufacturer and film merchandise. None can be bigger than this Iconic car from James Bond.
Everything about the data tells you how well this set will do post retirement. I was convinced this set because of it’s popularity would have its time on the market extended. Well it hasn;t and she leaves this year.
That didn’t stop me accumulating a huge haul of these sets, over the year. That has been made easier by the fact that the discounts available on this have been explosive. Sometimes you get a one off half price for sets. This has had notable a few times where have been able to snap up. It has meant that am only buying when bigger discounts than what you see with the others is available. Otherwise you’ll be competing with people who got bigger deals and thus will need less for their margins.
But anything at a third off for this set is huge!
By far the most popular Speed champs available at the moment. Retiring or not.
LEGO 76912 Fast & Furious 1970 Dodge Charger R/T RRP £19.99
The last car that is retiring this year, is another set from a movie. Complete with a Dom mini fig as well.
This is again going to be hugely sought after. Very very popular again.
Snapped up these on the 3 for 2 at Sainsburys effectively getting a third off them. This again is my target price for this set.
Alongside this and Bond they are my favourite ones the be buying.
But the great thing about this theme is you are always safe if buy at a decent discount.
Tips and conclusions on Lego Speed Champions investing
There is a clear superior car between these that is the best investment and that is the DB5 007 car. It has been available at such good discounts and is so hugely popular. there will be plenty that have gone into this one, so just need to wait them out, but this will go to 100% return you need to wait to find out when. But because everyone is going in on this one, would be wise to diversify those sets a bit.
Another great tip for these sets is that I have always been able to get incredible discounts on speed champions in supermarket clearances. Particular Tesco and Sainsburys – regularly getting 50% off. So this is always worth a look during their stock rotations, and this is not just as they retire this is throughout the year.
